I don’t recall a time that I was not aware of my relationship with God.  It was a part of my home life through mealtime and evening prayer.  The relationship extended to the wider church community with deep bonds formed through worshiping together.  But it was also about my individual relationship with the Holy Spirit.  My relationship with Jesus deepened as I matured and more fully understood his walk and sacrifices here on earth.  I simply have always known my identity was formed through my relationship with God and nurtured by my family and church.

I was raised partly in the Virgin Islands, where my parents were born and raised, and in NYC, where they eventually moved.  I’ve traveled back and forth to the V.I. all my life.  Much of my family is still there.  The regular travel back and forth, as well as living as a child in my grandparents’ home that they ran as a guesthouse probably were the first seeds of my appreciation of intercultural relationships.  I love travel, the foods savored, the hospitality received from strangers, and the subsequent relationships formed.

I would name my first vocation as motherhood.  I am fortunate to have four children, now adults, their wonderful spouses, and nine grandchildren.  My husband, Kevin, shares my love of family as well as the travel bug.

Before moving to Colorado, I enjoyed a career in advertising in NYC.  Many of the same skills that served me then still serve me now in ordained ministry.  The same heart and drive have been evident in both.  In addition, I have been referred to by some as a “mama pastor”, which also rolls my first vocation into all that I do as I serve today in the church.

I love leading worship as well as sitting one on one with parishioners for pastoral care.  I am a trained death doula, and I am honored to accompany people as they travel from this realm to the next.  Delivering Children’s Messages is an adventure filled with surprise.  I never know exactly what will come up as these precious Children of God offer their authentic response to the Word.

My first call in ordained ministry was inside of a prison.  Serving the women inside was a blessing.  I am certain I showed up as a mama pastor first and foremost inside those walls.

And now, God has called me here to Evergreen Lutheran.  It is a completely different experience for a myriad of obvious reasons—men and children are in the congregation, and everyone has the freedom to physically explore and learn from the world, should they choose to do so.   I am serving a population with a wealth and variety of histories, perspectives and resources.

I expressed the desire to pursue a vocation in ordained ministry when I was a middle schooler, still living with my parents.  Although I am what you can call a “cradle Lutheran”, my parents advised against this route because there were no opportunities at that time for women to pursue ordained ministry.  I feel that I have ministered in all of my vocations throughout life,  Today, I am blessed to serve in an official capacity my parents did not live long enough to see in my life.  I give thanks for the opportunity to serve.

I was born in Denver and raised in the foothills of Colorado. I am honored to act as a part of this wonderful staff, though I am not a member, as I attend a Unitarian Universalist congregation ‘down the hill.’ After time spent in school (Sko Buffs), then working early childhood education, then administration for a sales company, then admin for a funeral home, I now find myself here at ELC! My little family of 5 (myself, my husband, my daughter, and our two cats) live down in Lakewood and I would be lying if I didn’t say the drive up Turkey Creek is one of my favorite parts of my week. My own relationship with spirituality looks different than many here as I was raised in the UU church and still call myself UU but I bring my belief in the interconnected web of all existence and the inherent worth and dignity of every person into every part of my life, including my work here at ELC. From tuning the gears that ‘make things work around here’ to getting to talk with members about their lives and their own beliefs, I am honored to be in this space. In my free time, I love to read a sappy romance novel, crochet a stuffy for my little one, go for a hike (Lair o’ the Bear is a personal favorite), or go enjoy my husband’s raucous brass band, Guerrilla Fanfare, play at a brewery.

Dave Gleason | Music Minister

I have been making music in church since I was about 5 years old. I grew up attending the Congregational Church in Cheyenne, Wyoming where the Pastor’s wife was the organist, choir director, children’s choir director, and my private voice teacher. I also started piano lessons at the age of 7. By the time I started Junior High and all my church friends were finding excuses not to go to church, I had been invited to sing in the adult choir and adult handbell choir! I loved the feeling of making music for the church with the “important people”. As soon as I began my music education career at age 23, I quickly found myself also directing choirs at churches. This will be my 27th year leading music in the Lutheran faith and I am so happy to finally be able to worship and minister in my own community. Brenda and I have lived in Evergreen since 2002 and although this is only my 3rd year at ELC, it already feels like home. I recently retired from 33 years as a high school choir director and am filling that extra time with anything that takes me outdoors. I love mountain biking, skiing, hiking, and road trips. God called me to Evergreen Lutheran Church at a time of transition and I am happy to play a part in bridging the gap between wonderful, long time traditions, and exciting new possibilities.

Dave Plothow | Property Manager

I was born and raised on a farm in Southwestern Michigan. Our family attended Zion Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) in Kalamazoo where I was baptized and confirmed. My parents were very active members.

After graduating from High School, I attended Western Michigan University and received a BS in Mechanical Engineering. I worked in the material handling and construction equipment industry throughout my career. Career moves were very common resulting in me living in Illinois (twice), California (four times), Ohio, New York and Utah before settling in Colorado. I met and married Sue in San Diego, our son was born in New York, and our daughter was born in California.

We joined ELC in 1998 and have been active members since. We retired in 2019 and have enjoyed traveling, skiing, hiking and exploring Colorado.

Plus a HUGE thank you to our wonderful Property Management team for all of their hard work keeping our facilities beautiful.
